CORONADO, Calif. (KGTV) - A driver left a trail of destruction behind Tuesday night after losing control of his car and slamming into a pole and benches in Coronado.
The crash happened at around 9:15 p.m. in the 51000 block of Orange Avenue, Coronado police said.
Eric Peterson, who witnessed the wreck, said, "As I was looking out toward Orange Avenue, I saw a vehicle pass by. [It] looked like it was going upwards of 100 mph. Shortly after, I heard the impact."
Police confirmed the car was traveling at a high rate of speed when it apparently missed a curve and went over a sidewalk. The car took out a light pole -- dragging it about 100 feet -- before it crashed into a concrete wall and an outdoor table and benches.
The impact of the crash sprayed chunks of concrete throughout the street, with some debris hitting several vehicles.
Witnesses said the male driver and a female passenger got out of the wreckage, and both did not appear to be seriously injured. They were taken to the hospital to be evaluated.
No other injuries were reported.
Police are investigating the crash.
