VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - One man is dead after his car collided head-on with a traffic signal post in the North County early Saturday.

The victim, identified as a 44-year-old Hispanic man, was found still in his vehicle - a dark green, 1999 Toyota Camry - at about 3:30 a.m. by a Sheriff's deputy patrolling the area of North Santa Fe Avenue and West Los Angeles Drive in Vista, San Diego Sheriff's Department (SDSO) said.

SDSO said the man was still seated in the driver's seat but was not restrained by a seat belt. He was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders.

Deputies said cell phone usage doesn't appear to have led to the crash at this time. Investigators are still looking into whether alcohol or drugs played a factor in the crash.

The man's name was not released.

SDSO's Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team is currently investigating. Anyone with information about the crash is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
