CARLSBAD, Calif. (KGTV) – A dog viciously attacked a 4-year-old girl at a popular restaurant, according to the little girl’s mother.

The attack happened at an upstairs patio of a pizza restaurant in Carlsbad on the August 31.

Taylor Burke says she and her family were visiting from Orange County. They were having dinner at a second floor pet-friendly patio area.

A woman and her dog, a Collie-Shepherd mix, were sitting at a table a few feet away from them. The woman also had two daughters with her.

“So (my daughters) were admiring the dog, saying, ‘what a cute dog,’” Taylor said. “The lady heard that, and came from her table and said, ‘I see your girls are looking at my dog. He’s really friendly. Do they want to play with him?’”

Taylor’s daughter, Lacey, started playing with the dog. Taylor says the dog’s owner stepped away for a second leaving her daughters to tend to their dog and Lacey.

For whatever reason, the dog bit Lacey’s face twice.

“When I saw her face,” Taylor said, “I can’t even explain what was going through my head.”

Lacey had to be rushed to the hospital. She needed surgery that night.

Taylor now has a message to dog owners and parents.

“Dog owners, just properly supervise your dogs at all times,” she said. “And parents, if a dog owner says their dog is friendly, you never know.”

The restaurant and dog owner declined to comment to 10News for this story.
