A 47-year-old man was found dead just off the roadway in the 15500 block of Bandy Canyon Road in Escondido Saturday, according to the San Diego Sheriff's Department.
His body was discovered around 11:05 a.m. on the side of the road by two of his friends who went looking for him.
The sheriff's department said his body appeared to have been there for over a week, as there were signs of decay.
The medical examiner was called to the scene and determined there were no obvious signs of trauma.
The body was taken to the Medical Examiner's Office for further examination and determination of death.
The name of the deceased was not released by officials, but friends tell 10News the man was Michael Krein.
They say Krein was last seen on February 27. Friends say he was at Cordiano Winery in the San Pasqual Valley.
Krein was at a woman's house after and got into an argument with her, according to friends. He then took off walking and called a cab company, but the cab could never find him, they said.
Chad Rader said that when they began looking for him they thought the search would take weeks, but they found him almost instantly.
"My stomach is in knots, I'm in shock still, this is my friend, dead on the side of the road and I found him," said Rader.
