Car bursts into flames on I-8 near SR-125

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A car burst into flames along Interstate 8 in the La Mesa area Friday morning, but no injuries were reported.

The fire was reported just after 4:40 a.m. on the westbound side of I-8 near southbound state Route 125, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP officials said the fire started under the rear of the vehicle, causing the driver to pull over. The driver and a passenger escaped as the car became fully engulfed moments later.

The car occupants were not hurt, the CHP said.

Firefighters were able to quickly douse the flames, but the car was completely destroyed.

The cause of the blaze is unknown.
