CALEXICO, Calif. (KGTV)--A Border Patrol agent was assaulted Thursday in Calexico by three men who climbed over the international boundary fence into the U.S., according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

CBP said three men climbed over the fence at 3:40 p.m. and the agent tried to apprehend them.

One man kicked the agent several times in the face, said CBP.  Other agents were in the area and arrested the group.

The agent was treated for his injuries at a nearby hospital, according to CBP.

Agents said the three men were in the country illegally.  The man accused of the attack will face prosecution for assault against a federal agent.
