Bald eagle found on Ramona trail has West Nile virus

A bald eagle that was found in the brush on an East County trail, barely able to move has been diagnosed with West Nile virus, according to the director of The Fund for Animals Wildlife Center, Ali Crumpacker.

A hiker brought the adult bird to the Pet Emergency & Specialty Center in La Mesa on Sept. 20. The eagle was not one of four tagged in San Diego County.

Crumpacker said the bird is expected to make a full recovery in about two weeks and will be released into the wild.
