Listen up!Class is in session.
John Cena is no longer the WWE champion! No, he didn't lose it to anyone. He was injured in the ring last Monday night in a match against Mr. Kennedy. That forced Vince McMahon to vacate the title. At the start of the "No Mercy" pay-per-view, he declared Randy Orton the champion. Triple H then talked his way into a title match, and won the belt. Triple H was the new WWE champ. So what happened next? That's why I'm here.WWE Championship Match: Hunter Hearst Helmsley vs. Umaga
What Should Happen: This turned into a WWE title match, after HHH won the belt earlier in the show. Did Umaga have a chance? Are you kidding me?
What Will Happen: Triple H will win.
WhatDid Happen: Triple H won, to retain his new title. Later in the show, Orton would trigger a rematch clause in his contract to get another shot a the title. But this PPV isn't just about Triple H and Orton, there were other matches on the card!
Challenge Match: Rey Mysterio vs. Finley
What Should Happen: This should be great. Actually, it should be for the World Heavyweight Championship -- the belt Batista is again holding.
What Will Happen: Has Finley ever won on PPV? I'm not sure he has. He won't here, either.
What Did Happen: Finley didn't win on this night. But neither did Rey. Both men wrestled to a no decision. Boo!
WWE Women's Championship Match: Candice Michelle (c) vs. Beth Phoenix
What Should Happen: I hate it when wrestling writers say "I don't care." But I understand why they do it.
What Will Happen: Phoenix will get the job done.
What Did Happen: Phoenix quickly took out Candice to capture the title.
ECW Championship Match: C.M. Punk (c) vs. Big Daddy V
What Should Happen: Tommy Dreamer should have been in this match. BDV can't move in the ring. Punk, in any case, should have no problem here.
What Will Happen: Punk keeps his hardware for another month.
What DidHappen: Matt Striker interfered, costing BDV the match. Punk retained.
World Heavyweight Championship Match: Batista (c) vs. The Great Khali
What Should Happen: This is a "Punjai Prison Match," which looks really lame to tell you the truth. It should be the star of the show here, since neither of these guys can wrestle. Is Khali ever going away?
What Will Happen: Batista retains his belt. Ho hum.
What Did Happen: Batista won a ho-hum cage match. Is that possible? I guess so.
WWE Championship Match: Triple H vs. Randy Orton
What Should Happen: OK. Last contest of the night. It's a Last Man Standing match. What should happen here? I'd let Orton win, and let him carry the ball for a bit.
What Will Happen: Orton wins.
WhatDid Happen: Orton won, to finally capture the WWE crown. It's about time.
Well, that was a bit of a mess. I guess that's what happens when your champion goes down to injury six days before a big show. As for my picks, I was five for five, with a tie for that dopey Rey Mysterio match. In other words kids: I was perfect. As usual.Speaking of perfection, make sure to download EPISODE 48 of "Old School, New School," the Professor Wrestling podcast. This week, my co-hosts Dr. Mike Lano and George Schire give us their worst night at the area, and yak about TNA's expansion to two hours on Thursday nights. Good stuff, as usual. That's it!Class is dismissed!(Professor Wrestling is a masked employee of Internet Broadcasting, hailing from Parts Unknown. Got a question, comment, complaint?
